How to Select a Backshell

1. Match the Connector

Backshells are connector-specific. Match the shell size (8, 10, 12, 15, 19, 23, 25) and thread type (MIL-C-38999, MIL-C-26482, etc.).

2. Check Cable OD

Ensure the backshell cable entry accommodates your cable diameter. Most use interchangeable grommets or bushings for different cable sizes.

3. Consider the Environment

Need EMI protection? Choose an EMI backshell with 360 degree shield termination. Need environmental sealing? Choose an environmental backshell with O-ring seals.

4. Choose the Exit Angle

Use straight for direct runs. Use 45 degree or 90 degree when space is limited or to reduce cable bend stress at the connector.
